Finnish TV channels are transitioning to HD broadcasts from spring 2025 onwards, which is when Finland’s national public service broadcasting company Yle will discontinue broadcasting its TV channels in standard-definition (SD) in both the terrestrial and cable TV networks. After this, Yle TV channels will only be broadcast in high-definition (HD). Viewing HD channels requires a television or set-top box with an HD tuner.
Households receiving TV broadcasts via the cable TV network will also need a television or set-top box with an HD tuner following the transition.
SD broadcasts by Yle will end on 31 March 2025 and by commercial networks on 30 June 2025.
Check out the Traficom press release (External link) (11 September 2024) about the transition.
